29 Simple Ideas for Leap Day

Did you realize that we all have an EXTRA DAY this year? Yes – Feb. 29! 2024 is a Leap Year!

What will YOU do to take advantage of this day that only comes along every 4 years?

Here are 29 ideas for you:

  1. Volunteer to help a family member, friend or neighbor.
  2. Watch the sunrise and/or sunset. Notice all of the beautiful colors.
  3. Give someone a compliment.
  4. Go on a picnic – complete with a blanket, sandwiches, fruit and even cloth napkins.
  5. Hide a few bucks in the pocket of your spouse/kid(s)’ clothes for a fun surprise later.
  6. Stop at a bakery for a special treat and savor the aroma of freshly baked breads.
  7. Sing in the shower….and don’t be shy about it.
  8. Turn your phone off and put it completly out of sight for a couple hours.
  9. Write a letter to yourself about your current stage of life, and what you hope to experience in the next 4 years. Seal it in an evelope and mark it: Open Next Leap Year – Feb. 29, 2028.
  10. Try a new recipe.
  11. Give someone flowers… and pick them if you can.
  12. Enjoy an ice cream cone – drips and all! Or better yet – make your own Rootbeer Float or Banana Split!
  13. Call an old friend from high school.
  14. Pop a bowl of poporn – on the stovetop – NOT in the microwave.
  15. Spend time outdoors and watch/listen to the birds around you. Take note of the color changes happening in nature.
  16. Light a few candles and soak in a bubble bath.
  17. Start reading that book that you say you don’t have time for.
  18. Look for a 4 Leaf Clover.
  19. Skip (like you did when you were a kid). It’s bound to make you feel younger!
  20. Take a bike ride.
  21. Play your favorite tunes and dance around the house. Pull out your old vinyl records if you have them.
  22. Tell someone you love them….then tell them again an hour later.
  23. Take a hike…. literally.
  24. Find a fountain, throw in a penny and make a wish.
  25. Roast marshmallows over an open fire.
  26. Write down a favorite memory – remember/imagine the feelings, sights, sounds, smells….
  27. Practice mindfulness – sit quiety to meditate, reflect and be present in the moment without any distractions.
  28. Gaze at the stars – marvel at the beauty of the night sky.
  29. Partake in a pre-midnight-snack before Leap Day comes to an end.
