Simplify Your Closet – Project 333

I have been intrigued by the idea of Project 333 for quite a while. If you have not heard of this concept, it is a wardrobe project created by Courtney Carver from bemorewithless.com. The purpose of Project 333 is to limit your everyday wardrobe to 33 items for a 3 month period. Undergarments, work-out clothes and sleepwear are not included in the 33 items, but shoes, jewelry, accessories and outerwear are.

Does this sound like something you could do? I decided to explore the concept myself, and I made this video to share with you.

It is springtime I as write this – and I am SO ready to simplify my closet for warm weather! In the back of my mind, I had a feeling that I might not get down to 33 items on my first try, but I wanted to see what I could do. Would it be 33 items… 44… 55 or maybe more???

Courtney Carver encourages us to try Project 333, even if we have to make a few exceptions. I decided that my exceptions would be shoes and jewelry. I am not including these items in my count. To explain further: limiting your closet to 33 items does NOT mean that you get rid of the excess items. The idea is to put the extra items in a different closet or in a tote where they are out of sight.

Then see how it FEELS to experience easier decisions about what to wear every day. As time passes, you may decide you don’t miss some of the items you have stored away and choose to let them go. Or you can keep them to work into your next 3-month collection of 33 items.

I cleared out my entire closet – and then carefully chose the items I wanted to include in my new Spring wardrobe.

Here are the criteria I used to decide what would go into my closet.

  • I had to love it… or really like it.
  • It had to fit me well, right now….not if I lose weight in the future.
  • It had to be a piece that could be worn with more than one other item in my wardrobe.

It became clear pretty quickly that 33 items was going to be a stretch for me….at least this time around. Even 44 was a bit difficult… so I decided my closet would become Project 555 – 55 items for 5 months. Since I live in the South, I can easily dress with spring/summer clothes for a 5 month period.

I Love The Way It Turned Out! And what I especially love, is HAVING REAL SPACE BETWEEN MY HANGERS! Love, Love, Love that! It feels so light and airy when I open my closet doors! I think I will be able to reduce my 55 count the next time I change out my closet.

I really encourage you to try this! And remember – you don’t have to get rid of items to try it! To learn more about Courtney Carver’s Project 333, you can view her video here.

So – What will be YOUR magic number??? Please let me know!
