Angie’s Originals held its annual Anniversary and Artists Celebration on Nov. 23, 2013. Wow! Three Years! The time has just flown by! It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were scraping the pillars on the front porch and repainting… going to flea markets looking for unique finds for displays… reaching out to area artists… So many people were a part of the creation of Angie’s Originals – and to all of you, I say THANK YOU! Angie’s Originals opened on Oct. 29, 2010 with a handful of artists. Now we are happy to feature creations from over 25 artists in the region. Each year on our anniversary, we host a day where a few of our artists are on hand to demonstrate their respective craft. Customers and friends can see the artists in action and ask questions to learn more about their art. Jamie Jones is one of our newest artist. She showed customers how she hand-felts alpaca fiber into a hats. Jamie also knits and felts scarves and other items. It is about a 5-hour process of working the fiber by hand with soap and water to make a hat. Diane Bremer has been one of our featured potters from our very first day. She made several pots on this day while visiting with our customers and friends. When you visit our boutique, you’ll see a large collection of Diane’s pottery and a few of her paintings, too. Anita Price was busy knitting a cable scarf during our Anniversary Celebration. Anita’s knitted dish cloths and Shimmer Scarves are also popular items in our boutique. While all of us girls were inside where it was warm, Monte Bremer was demonstrating outside in a tent. But don’t worry, we had a heater going for him out there 🙂 Monte makes a variety of items including keepsake boxes, rolling pins, cutting boards, wall hanging and walking sticks. Thanks to all who have supported us and helped us to grow over the last three years. A special thanks goes to my husband, Bill, who has supported me every step of the way. We have made a lot of great friends through this adventure, and look forward to meeting more artists and...read more
It’s always nice to have something extra pretty to have on hand for a cool evening. Isn’t it gorgeous? It can be worn as a shawl or a scarf. This shawl was crocheted by Birute, a lovely lady who loves to knit and crochet. The two-piece wooden shawl pin by Bob Wessel adds an interesting and functional accent. Bob has made several different styles of shawl pins for Angie’s Originals. The glass necklace and earrings were made by Calypso Chile artisan group. I am pleased that my little boutique in tiny little Metropolis, Illinois is a place where works by local artists and fair trade artists from around the world can be displayed together. Calypso Chile is a family owned business that operates from the family home. Marcela Cofre and her husband supported their family by making women’s shoes until 1994. When the market for shoes dropped dramatically, Marcela found a particular talent for glass making, building a sustainable business to support her family and others she has trained. I am blessed to have met so many talented artists and craftsmen and women who contribute their unique creations to my boutique. Craig Rhodes played a major part in helping me to open my business in 2010. His pottery is simply amazing….and functional as well. All of his stoneware and porcelain pieces are microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. In the photo here you see Craig where he is most comfortable – in his studio. (Well…I must say, he is also quite comfortable in his garden. He is a master of that form of art as well!) Thank you, Craig, for your inspiration and for being such an important part of my business! Diane Bremer and her husband, Monte, are equally important contributers to Angie’s Originals. Diane and Monte demonstrate their craft every year at our Anniversary celebration. They will be on hand for the 2013 Anniversary event on Saturday, Nov. 23. Thank you, Diane and Monte, for all you do to make Originals the local place for local art!
