Make a Souvenir T-Shirt Tote Bag

T-shirt Tote Bag is finished!

Souvenir T-shirts – we all buy them!  But how many of them end up buried in your closet?  Why not pull one out and make something useful from it?

t-shirt bag beginningI got this t-shirt when I went on my first cruise.  I did wear it quite a bit, but lately it has been tucked away in a drawer.  Now I will be able to use it for something and keep a souvenir of my trip, too.

This Project is as Simple as 1-2-3: Cut – Pull – Tie and you’re done!

Start by cutting off the bottom band of the shirt

Next, but off the sleeves.
Next, cut off the sleeves.
Cut off the neck band. You can cut this what ever way you wish, you could cut it in a V or in a Square, if you wish.

Lay our bottom band across for a guide to cut your strips. I cut fringe on this bag about 6 inches long.
Lay out bottom band across for a guide to cut your strips. I cut fringe on this bag about 7 inches long. I think the next one I do I will cut a little shorter so there will be more room inside the bag.
Cut fringe about 1 inch wide all the way across. And remember to cut the side seam area on each side.

pull each piece of fringe so that the materal rolls up. Keep shirt flat so that fringes remain in order.

All fringe is pulled - how fun! I think this would make for a cute tank top, too!

Now tie coordinating top and bottom fringes together.
Now tie coordinating top and bottom fringes together all the way across.  Make sure you pair each fringe with the one directly behind it.

T-shirt Tote Bag is finished! How Cute – and Easy!  I think I will use mine to hold my current crochet project.

Here is another idea for your Upcycled T-Shirt Bag. Hang it in your closet and use it to store things like hose or slips. It is a smart way to keep things handy in your closet rather than in a drawer.
